The Benefits of Online Dating
Online dating can be a great time saver. Who
has the time to run around like a hyper puppy trying to meet people? Who
wants to hang out at a bar with some of the least happy people around? What
a waste of time.
These days, it’s almost expected that first contact with your next date is
through an online dating site. It’s definitely an established trend
that is gaining popularity. It’s more reliable, faster, and even safer
as long as you’re careful. (See our Online Dating Safety Tips.)
Tons of singles have an online profile, and many use more than one online
dating network. I know from personal experience that even widowed and
divorced grandparents are finding new partners online. My own father found a
new wife at age 70 from an online profile and they’ve been married for five
years now. My brother found a new girlfriend online before I
even knew he had broken up with the previous one. The dating world is
accelerating just like the rest of the world, courtesy of the internet.
Someone For Everyone
Everyone needs someone, and nearly everyone can
find someone compatible online. Don’t assume there’s no one for you –
There’s a lot of lonely people out there.
And that’s the beauty of it – since no one is perfect, the best way to find
someone who’s perfect for YOU is to start by looking for someone who shares
your interests and has an attitude you find attractive. No where can
you do this more effectively than by reviewing online profiles and asking
probing questions from a safe distance. Then you can suggest meeting up and
spending some time together to see if you truly enjoy being together.
Best Foot Forward
You wouldn’t leave home without grabbing your
keys and making sure the door is locked, right? Well, before you start
dating, be sure to take a moment and review your own readiness checklist.
After all, if you want to have success in dating, you want to put forth your
best effort and image. Of course you always want to be yourself, but you
can present your best qualities if you work at it, just like you can have
bad days and good days.
The following is a list of things you can consider about yourself and see if
you think a change might be in order. When in doubt ask someone you
trust what they honestly think. But be specific about your potential
improvement ideas, or you may get suggestions you weren’t necessarily
looking for, or maybe no answer at all. They are your friends after
all and won’t want to offend you.
Your “Do”
Should you update your hairstyle? If your hair looks the same as it did 20 years ago, it’s worth some thought. Maybe you should check with a hairstylist, and not the one you’ve always visited.
Your Style
Do you need some new clothes, or a new style? Trying a new style of clothes is a fairly low risk way to convince yourself that you’re trying to make some improvements. The feel of new clothes becomes a recurring reminder that you’re working on a New You. Go to a clothing store you don’t usually shop at and check out their fashions for new ideas. Do some people-watching and see what styles you might like to try.
Your Face
Should you whiten or straighten your teeth? With modern dentistry, orthodontia and cosmetic treatments available, misalignments, missing teeth and just about anything can be fixed theses days. Only you can decide if it’s worth the cost and effort, but be sure to get actual prices on the treatment you’re considering. You may be surprised and find that it’s more affordable than you think.
